Welcome to Claife Stud

Claife Stud was founded in the Lake District in 1972, the stud was named after Claife Heights, the low fells across Lake Windermere from the paddocks and the view the ponies woke up to each morning.

Our foundation ponies were a colt Normandykes Imp and a mare Tilla of Tournaig, with additions of Knock, Marshwood and Netherley bloodlines the emphasis has always been on type, temperament and free movement.

On our move south we became more involved with Sport Horses and eventing in particular, but with advancing age and the desire to compete more as a family things have come full circle and the ponies are back!

We now have a small stud of standard Shetland Ponies, breeding for riding, driving and in-hand showing, we also have a few Highland ponies and are retaining our first homebred Highland foal, Claife Ptarmigan.

We hope you enjoy this website, there are details of a few of the family on here but if you would like any further details do give us a call.
